Is it just me or has the site gone into a slump lately? I don't see stories being posted as frequently as I used to, and the forums seem to be less active. The last couple podcasts being somewhat short doesn't help either.
I say we need to figure out a way to get this site back up to speed again! I'd be willing to contribute my own stories on the site (I tried posting one about a week ago, but it hasn't shown up) to help out. I admit I haven't really contributed much, but I'd hate to see this site suffer the same fate twice. If we unite, we shall not let it fall as it did years ago!

Count me in.
I've been checking the forum daily to see if Jeromy and Mike have posted anything about the current silence. I hope everything is well. I miss the vibrant internet discussion and the hour long podcasts (Heck, I miss the good ole' 2 hour episodes from season 2).
I hate to see this podcast and community of gamers (however small it may be) die out.
Just let us know how we can help.

Count me in as well. I just recently started listening to Podcasts at work and this one is one of my favorites. I've already listened to Episodes 62 and 63 multiple times (and cracking up each time at the guys' take on my \"laughing like a lunatic\" email). I hit the podcast page daily and scroll down to see the recent forum posts. Slim pickin's recently…

I hope that the podcast and the forums will continue to be active for a while. I get a lot of entertainment value out of the show, and I'm glad that the forums seem to be pretty free of the usual immature console-bashing and hate posts that seem to make up 96% of all forum posts on every site in every language across the entire internet.
Its funny when you think about it. You would expect a forum about video games to be full of foul-mouthed l33t-speakers arguing about whether the PS3 is better than the 360, or whether Star Wars is better than Star Trek, or whether Grimm Shado could beat up the Wolverine, blah blah blah.
I'm glad there is at least one site out of all the interwebz where people can be somewhat civilized about video games.

If this site dries up again it would be a downer but that's how it goes. I don't post on any other forums regularly because forums just aren't really my thing. Trying to find another podcast to listen to in between episodes of the Retrocast, but I can't find any decent ones. I listen to the Cagcast and it's ok, but the rest I've tried are not very good. I thought Player One Podcast would be good with former EGM reviewers on there, but everyone wants to talk at once! Does anyone have any suggestions on other decent podcasts?

I listen to five or six weekly podcasts, but only a couple of them are video game related.
You could try Radio Free Nintendo, the podcast of Nintendo World Report. They're ok, but they're not usually as fun or down-to-earth as the Retrocast. They tend to ramble on a lot about the newest games on Xbox & PS3 and they talk as much about the game industry as they do about games themselves but other than that I'd say they're decent.
VGDJ, the podcast of OCRemix.org is pretty good but that's kind of a stretch. Its not even really about video game music – its about remixes of video game music. You might want to give it a try because they have fun on their show sometimes.
If anyone else does know of some other really good video game or retro game podcasts then post it because I'd be interested too.

I listen to 1up's Retronauts Podcast. I would say that it's my second favorite after the Nintendo Retrocast. However, the discussions get pretty technical…which you might like, but I think it sometimes takes away from the show…but then again the guys who run the podcast are either in the Video Game industry themselves and/or professional journalists. The Retronauts defiantly have a higher production value than Mike & Jeromy but for some reason or another it's just difficult for me to bond with the hosts. Maybe it is because they are getting paid to make this podcast (although you can download it for free). Nevertheless, they have a great blog that goes along with the cast.
I also think RetroforceGo is a great podcast and is probably about to clench the number 2 spot on my podcast list. The hosts (there are usually 4 or 5 of them so it can get pretty crowded) are really relaxed, fun-loving, and typically have interesting discussions. My two major complaints are that the show is probably going to end soon (they are on their 100th episode and currently \"on break\") and I have just started to listen to them. I think I've heard about 4 of their episodes. I wish I would have started to listen to them from the beginning. However, if you are only going to listen to one of my recommendations than this is it. RetroforceGo is the only retro video game podcast that has such grand character and hilarious antics like the Retrocast.
Another show I listen to is called Tiger Claw Radio. Currently the show is in it's infancy, but I think it has great potential. It's a bit tricky to find the show. Search YouTube for TigerClawTV (not Tiger Claw Radio) and then follow the link for the podcast on the YouTube profile. The show isn't on iTunes….yet.
Disclaimer: None of the above podcasts are soley based on old Nintendo games; they tend to vary their material. Retronauts and Tiger Claw Radio even talk about old PC games and freeware. Furthermore, all of the above are explicit at times, but less so than the last few episodes of the Nintendo Retrocast.
I hope that helps. Happy Casting! :-)

VGDJ is back?! I used to listen just to hear previews of the new remixes. Never cared much for the news about remix competitions though.
I have a 1-2 hour commute every day (depending on traffic) so I always have a bunch of podcasts queued up – here are the other gaming ones I'm into:
I'll agree that the Retronauts podcast is worth trying – they definitely do a lot of research before each episode and come across very knowledgeable.
I'm also a fan of the CAGCast because it's my main source for new gaming news.
I've been trying one called the Nintendo Life podcast that deals with Wii virtual console news. I'm kind of on the fence about it. Due to the schedule the news is kinda old by the time it's out.
There's a fairly new one called Retro Gaming Roundup that comes out every month and is long (4-5 hours). It's broken into segments and I tend to skip around. For example, they seem to do a segment about pinball every month that I always skip (pinball is just slightly before my time). On the other hand, they have a segment where one of the hosts visits a flea market in southern California and haggles on video games (and records it). Some of the deals he gets are insane.
Lastly, there's a semi-regular one called RPG Backtrack that's good – as the name implies they talk about old RPG games, usually SNES era stuff but they also venture into NES and PlayStation.
Ones I've tried and didn't get into:
GoNintendo podcast – too much mindless chatter.
1UP Yours - I like video games and everything but these guys take it way too seriously. Also too many fanboy arguments with the hosts. It's been a while since I've listened and all those guys might be on that Player One podcast now.

Hey Mikey-Mike and J-Bird,
When you guys say on a particular episode that it'll be a bad one, i.e. episode 64, you couldn't be any farther from the truth! All of your shows are HILARIOUS!!! I don't really mind if you go a little of topic, it's always entertaining! Of corse, keep it a little retro-nintendo haha. But seriously, all of your shows are at least ten times better then any other podcast I listen to (ScrewAttack Sidescrolers, etc.). Just keep 'em comin' guys. They're always good no matter how bad you say they are :).
PS. I'd be happy to contribute more news! I'll start lookin' around for more stuff…

What about adding a Sega Retrocast? I listened to episode 17 today at work and the guys were talking about the Sega Retrocast coming soon. Sounded like they had two other folks to produce that one…what ever happened with it?
Maybe add a Sony Retrocast as well….although it would almost have to be PS1 exclusive…unless PS2 is considered retro now.

Well do you think there's anyone out there that would be willing to form up something like a Retrocast2. Maybe they could cover the Genesis, PS1, and maybe even the Dreamcast.
I might (key word might) be able to contribute if there's a few people out there who know the technical aspects of making a podcast.
Any takers?

I've listened to Retronauts, and liked it for a while, but I found it hard to stay interested in when I didn't know anything about the games they were talking about. I'll have to try some of the others that were mentioned.
I'd also be willing to help out with a \"Retrocast2\". I doubt my voice would be interesting to listen to, but I can try to help with the website or with audio-editing, like Nick.

It might be a train wreck, but I'd attempt to talk in a podcast…if everyone could stand my southern accent/slang.

Nick:I wouldn't worry about accents or slang on a podcast, a lot of people like accents. At the very least it helps a listener remember who is talking.
I would definitely be able to contribute to a podcast, since I never get tired of talking & hearing about old games. I have the time to be able to commit to it weekly, at the very least finding stories/articles to talk about. Also I know Hugues has a lot of info, talent & stories to bring to the party, though he might not have the time to do a thing like this.

Being a very long time listener (started listening in 06) I've seen this happen a few times. I just wish Mike or Jeromy would let us know what was going on.

Thanks ** you don't have permission to see this link ** It is something I'd be interested in but yeah time is a tough one for me. The bigger problem is I'm still not comfortable talking over the PC. On the one episode I did I felt like I held back a lot and needed to loosen up, maybe I'm just too self-critical. That's also been keeping me from doing a podcast.
The technical aspects are the least concern – there are plans like this: ** you don't have permission to see this link ** that seem to make it really simple.
If someone is serious go ahead and contact me offline and we can talk about ideas.

hemrawc & Rubyclaw: Nick & I have been tossing around the idea of trying some kind of podcast, would either of you want to get involved?
