Garage Sale vs. Pawn Shop

Where do you find most of your games for the best prices? (other than eBay)

In my experience about 1 in every 15 garage sales has NES stuff, however, about 1 in every 3 pawn shop has NES stuff. I’ve actually seen much cooler things in pawn shops than garage sales. Actually, just yesterday I saw a virtual boy at the pawn shop near my house. I probably would have bought it but they wanted for it. I didn’t want it that bad…I probably wouldn’t play it that much. It’s just one of those things I wanted to have just to say that I have it. In any case, I bought 2 NES games there for 50 cents total.

What do you prefer Pawn Shops or Garage Sales?

Referring back to the older forum posts:

@hughes

So the other day I went to a Half Price Books and purposedly looked for retro games.  They actually had quite a few SNES games (no RPGs or anything good) that were selling for about 5 bucks each.  So I passed.  Unfortunately, there was only 1 NES game, which was also grossely over priced.

In any case, thanks for the tip!  I have to keep checking back.

Yeah, 5 is about average for their SNES games which is OK. I recently bought Wizardry V there for 5 which was a great deal. On the other hand, they have a boxed copy of Madden '94 that has been sitting there as long as I've been going. Eventually they'll toss it in the clearance section for a buck I guess.

Their NES games are usually 3-4 bucks – good price for uncommon games. N64 games are usually 6-8 so I've only bought a couple from them.

I find Garage sales around here never have anything, and Pawn Shops are decently priced. However, the deals you can get if you hit a motherlode at a garage sale makes it worth it to look.

There's was a time that i prefered pawn shops, like ten years ago when I used to get 3 games for ten dollars like Super C, Built To Win & Double Dragon II: The Revenge  or 3 for 25 for games like Dragon Warriors IV, Mega Man 5 & Tetris (Tengen)

Now there's only 1 pawn shop thats sell NES games but will ask 50$ for popular games like Punch-out & Contra (cart. only) and

they have tried to sell me Mega Man 5 for 150$

but they have sold me Tom & Jerry and TMNT III boxed for 15$ lol

In garage sales all I find are playstation 1 & 2 and the first xbox : (
