Right now I've got about thirty-two hours into Pokémon Red. However I have played and beaten Gold, Ruby, and Pearl, my favorite being Gold. But what about you guys? What type do you usually start with in a Pokémon game? What's your favorite game? Strategy? What are your opinions on the franchise? I've loved it ever since I was little and Pokémon Gold was the first game that I ever beat and that's what really got me into gaming. My party in Red is:

Gyrados Lv. 39

Pigeot Lv. 39

Venusaur Lv. 38

Pikachu Lv. 38

Haunter Lv. 27

Dratini Lv. 24

I've only played Blue & Red but I liked them. Sounds like you've got a cool party and I hope you beat the final bosses with some of them.

What did I start with? I went with Bulbasaur. It's not as immediately powerful as the other orignal starters but beating Brock in that first gym is easier with him.

Strategy? Well, some there are a lot of guys like Magikarp/Gyarados that become super-strong if you are patient enough to grind and level them up. There are always a few uber-powerful pokemon (Mewtwo/Charizard) but one thing I did like about the game is that just about any pokemon can be good if you level up enough and maybe teach it the right techniques. One time I played  through the game I had a high-level meowth that I taught HyperBeam to just to be stupid!** you don't have permission to see this link **

As to the rest of the series I kinda agree with nintenjo. Assembling a cool team, finding some secrets and beating the game are all fun, but 'catching them all' never really appealed to me. It seemed like a chore especially with the really rare ones that almost never appear (example: trying to a catch Tauros in the Safari Zone made me want pound my head against the wall). Building your starter pokemon up into a fighting machine and then beating the 'elite four' at indigo plateau seems like a classic RPG but then going to the unknown dungeon and trying to complete the pokedex felt like an anti-climax. Once I captured Mewtwo with a masterball I felt like 'What the hell am I supposed to do with this? I already beat the game.' I guess its for people who play head-to-head, but I'd rather just mess around and have fun with it than compete or fill up the pokedex.

Thanks! Yeah I plan to use that party to beat the elite four except change Haunter to Gengar and Dratini to Dragonite. But yeah, catching them all never really appealed to me until now. I just feel like I've loved this franchise so much and owe so much to it that I want to catch them all at least once but never go crazy and catch all 493 in Platinum or somethin'. But yeah, with all the other games I've played, catching the all just seemed kinda silly, but now I've got a whole summer to just chill and I though \"What not?\"

Hehe, good point. Catching 150 will be a lot easier than 493. I hope you have more luck finding a Tauros than I did. Also, your nickname always reminds me of Chocolardiac Arrest and This Brownie Might Kill You. ** you don't have permission to see this link **

The first two generations of Pokemon will always be awesome. Too bad the internal clock killed the battery save feature in Gold Silver and Crystal. My firend recently offered me his Crystal fro $5, but I had to give it back. He owned all three and neither of them will save anymore. For that reason alone, I can't wait to get Soul Silver. Until then, I have, Pearl, Leaf Green and regular Red Version to keep me busy. I never did care for the third generation.
