Gameboy Color vs. Original Gameboy

I remember getting a Gameboy Color when I was about 10, and I thought it was pretty neat to see colors on a handheld system (granted, I had never played a Game Gear or Lynx). I remember playing Metroid II in color for the first time and feeling like I was playing a whole new game. I've only owned about 4 Gameboy Color games so I would sometimes question myself whether I should've gotten one.

I still think it's a neat handheld, even though Nintendo implementing color in their handheld came kind of late. On the plus side, it doesn't have the motion blur problem of its two predecessors.

So, what are your opinions on the Gameboy Color? Did it bring a cool new change to your life or was it an unnecessary step and Nintendo should've just skipped over it and gone to the GBA?

I loved my Game Boy Color, but after getting a GBA SP, I've not played it.  If they had released more NES conversions (like Super Mario Bros Deluxe), if it had a backlight upgrade (GBC SP?), and if Nintendo had delayed the GBA and focused more on the GBC (kinda goes with 1 and 2), then I would have loved my GBC even more.  The big thing for me was the no-backlight option.  Although, I do remember having a discussion about what NES games would be converted for the GBC.  Never happened, though.

And, for me, all my gripes were fixed with the release of the GBA SP.

I really liked the GBC. I had no gripes with the original GB either though. I got an original gameboy when they were relatively new, and playing Super Mario Land and Metroid II when they were new was sweet. I really enjoyed some of the GBC games too. My favorites were Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, Toki Tori, and Tony Hawk 3. I also enjoyed the Neo Geo Pocket Color before I got my GBA.

I loved the Original Gameboy. I was so awe struck by it that I would play for hours. It was so unbelieveable having a game system that you could carry around with you. Then the pocket came along, I had to have it too. And when the Color came out, I was so happy with it, that it was some years later, that I realized, that I did not have any Color games! I have been picking up a few here and there. Still picking these systems up and playing them. I recently had the Pocket out playing Nemesis for a week or two straight. It got me so worked up that I went on line and picked up another Pocket off of eBay that had a different color outer shell. I ended up with an older model that did not have the battery light.
